Religious Persecution
December 27, 2008 Movie, Religous freedom? No CommentsTBN just showed a film about a young Russian who ended up in America after escaping on foot from the Soviet Union. Once he got here he discovered how little religious freedom we have in America.
He was sponsored by a church and placed in the home of a Christian family. He ended up effecting their lives in the long run. At one point he told the boy he was rooming with that in his country there were “secret Christians”but he was a “secret nonbeliever.”
It was not an easy transition for him, I personally knew a Ukrainian who got into trouble by being so vocal with Carol’s class for being so vocal. I believe she had seventh graders but they were old enough to go home and tell their parents about her guest. He had a lot of interesting things to say. Vladimir had to be part of cleaning up Chernobyl, he had lived his entire life in the Ukranian and could compare things there and here. He told the story of getting to come to America for a visit; not an easy thing. His story was wrapped up in God getting the visa for him. He spoke openly, to openly. Coral got serious warning about telling speakers the acceptable topics to discuss. Ironically in Vladimir’s land you could talk about anything. If you could get past the language barrier you could witness anywhere, anytime. Face it we can’t.
